A Volatile Mix of Fire and Air

As the moon grows and we near a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on US Election Day, I feel energy in my body building– a volatile mix of fire and air. Anger, fear, and a scattered feeling. Many mornings breathwork or journaling have not felt right, and instead I’m pulled towards a bigger energy transformation: half a mile run, and then pilates.

This 45-minute ritual gathers all of my energy and attention, and clears away everything that is ready to leave. To me pilates emphasizes earth energy: stabilizing, realigning and anchoring the body. The beginner's focus, deepening the abs in and up, is building and channeling fire energy. Air and water are involved–you can never separate the four elements–but in the beginning they are secondary energies we are stabilizing.

Pilates is all about patient, deep transformation. Steadiness through seismic shifts.

I always associated pilates with ballet dancers and wealthy women, and the reformer machine. The roots of pilates are in matwork, and I was surprised to learn that Joseph Pilates began developing the technique while imprisoned in a WWI British internment camp.

Pilates began as a practice to build health and balance in bodies that were subjected to injustice and aggression.

Pilates works the deepest muscles, building your foundation so the rest of you can relax, and trust in your strength. Strengthening the deep abdominals, and small muscles along the spine and in between the ribs, has helped to realign my posture, releasing chronic tension in my shoulders and hips.

If this sounds like the kind of energetic transformation you need, I am now offering…

Beginner Pilates!

1-hour Private and Small Group Classes via zoom

My style centers your connection to your body, your emotional landscape and energy. I aim to offer spaces where your whole self is welcome, you can scream when you need to and release tears or laughter as well. Engaging with the body often includes engaging with the emotional energy it's holding, and this doesn't stop just because we call something "exercise."

Through the end of 2022 I will have discounted pricing: $75 for a one-hour private session, and $25/person for a slot in a small group session (max 3 participants).

All private session and small group participants will receive a write-up of a 10-minute pilates practice to do on your own. Private session participants may request a personalized write-up.

My hope is the small group spaces offer an easier entry point for folks who may feel uncomfortable in a larger group setting, and who would benefit from personal attention but want to practice in community.

Small group class times are listed below. If you are interested and none of these times work for you, please email me and I'll add more classes as it aligns.

  • Thursdays 2-3pm EST

  • Fridays 4-5pm EST

  • Saturdays 10-11am EST

Registration closes 1 hour before the start time or when all 3 spots are filled. Please read the Community Agreements before registering. Grab a friend and build your power together!
