Collaborating with the Moon

The moon was always a presence in my life. Floating through poems and songs, a prominent guest in Zen texts, an anchor in the sky. I had no idea how much would shift when I began collaborating with the lunar cycle a few years ago.

I began by tracking the moon and my energy, opening a new space of curiosity— I could feel how my energy waxed and waned with the moon, and for the first time I wondered if perhaps my challenge was that I was fighting my energy. I was trying to push through when I was tired, sleep while jittery, be joyful when sad, I just often thought that my mood and energy were wrong.

The moon helped me realize I needed to collaborate with my energy instead of trying to control myself. I needed to see myself as divine, just like I see the moon.

Today, the moon begins to re-appear in the sky as the new moon. Traditionally seen as a time to plant seeds for the cycle ahead. What do you wish to build, release, or transform?

The full moon for me is everything all at once energy, sometimes jittery and volatile, full of life. Powerful energy that I can either channel, or it will channel me. It’s a potent time to gather in community— to be seen with compassion, witness other’s paths, and harness our collective energy.

Check in with yourself today around the new moon— we all have different connections to our great companion in the sky. Do you feel vibrance and excitement for something new? Resistance? Confusion? Curiosty All is welcome, make the time to see yourself fully.

Plant a seed at the new moon, and see what unfolds :-)
